pearls of the obermain hiking trail

Of course, it must not be missing from the suggested hiking tours around the german wicker town of lichtenfels: the home mountain of the staffelsteins, which for many is also called the "mountain of the franken" is called. Because it has a lot to offer. In addition to its beautiful vegetation and its magnificent views from numerous points on its plateau, there is also the possibility of a leisurely stop for refreshments.

For nature and culture lovers

with the hohen eller, vierzehnheiligen and banz monastery, further highlights await the nature and culture lover, who should definitely plan the hike as a full-day undertaking.
The starting point of this 25-kilometer tour, the longest of the presented hikes, is the train station in lichtenfels, from where the black 1 on a yellow-brown background guides us through the town to the southeastern edge of town. Even though this symbol is with us as far as the viktor-von-scheffel-blick, we orient ourselves after passing under the four-lane city bypass on the symbol of the gottesgartenweg (blue basilica on a yellow background), which is added from the direction of the friedenslinde.
This leads with partly fantastic views over the hohe eller, past the viktor-von-scheffel-blick, on beautiful paths down to vierzehnheiligen, where a visit to the famous basilica and a first short stop is recommended. Following the gottesgarten symbol, we meet the main hiking trail when we reach the high plateau. This brings us after a good 100 meters to the right over a beautiful, well paved path after about 3.5 kilometers to the staffelberg, which is definitely worth the short detour including a walk around the plateau. Here, by the way, you can also discover numerous very cozy rest areas, but you should always be careful, because there is a danger of falling in some places.
The mainwanderweg finally leads us to bad staffelstein, crosses the town and passes under the railroad tracks near the train station. Soon we reach the cycle path parallel to the road to unnersdorf, where we turn right after the bridge and come first on an open area, later in the woods up to the monastery of banz, where there are two restaurants for a refreshment or a stop. A refreshment anbieten. In addition to a short visit to the former monastery, the 200-meter detour to the edge of the forest in the direction of the forest climbing garden is also recommended, which again rewards with magnificent views. Back at the starting point of the detour, we are guided by the celtic path b, which branches off steeply downhill to the right after a few meters on the road towards lichtenfels and leads us to hausen.

Beautiful detour route

there we cross the weir (closed in 2018, nice detour route via weingarten to reundorf is signposted) and – continuing to follow the celtic path b – pass one of the two quarry ponds before we reach reundorf, passing the angler’s hut on the left, where there are again opportunities for refreshments. From the center of town, we follow the vertical blue line that leads us to the outskirts of lichtenfels, first along old waterways and under the freeway. After a passage directly along the mains, we finally pass under the railroad on the right and at bamberger strabe we come across the albrandweg (red crossing), which leads us back to the starting point of our tour, the railroad station of lichtenfels.
